CEO MESSAGE
NAIDOC Week turns 50 this year – an incredible milestone that reflects how far Australia has come in the path to reconciliation, and how much work still lies ahead.
But the story begins much earlier – in the 1930s, when Aboriginal leaders gathered in protest, calling for a “Day of Mourning” and demanding equality, rights and recognition. What began as a call for justice has grown into a national week of celebration – one that acknowledges the strength, culture and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy”, invites us to honour the Elders and advocates who’ve paved the way, and to support the young leaders shaping what’s next.
It’s a reminder that real progress means learning from the past while investing in the future. At Community Resources, that belief runs through our work. We recognise the strength and knowledge of people and communities while creating opportunities that support their future.
It’s also a reminder that a fairer, more inclusive Australia requires reconciliation – not just in theory, but in action.
Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) helps guide our commitment to reconciliation at CR, and NAIDOC Week is one way we take action: by showing up, listening, and walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across our teams and communities.
You should all have your new NAIDOC Week shirts by now. I reckon they look fantastic, and I invite you to wear them proudly this week and throughout the year. It’s a visible way we show our respect and commitment. And hopefully, they spark a few good conversations.
I encourage you to get involved and learn more this week by:
Checking out all of our NAIDOC Week resources on the CR website
Reading our flyer about what NAIDOC Week is and why it matters at CR
Wearing your NAIDOC shirt proudly
Chatting about NAIDOC Week with your team, family or community
Fifty years on, NAIDOC Week continues to grow – because of the strength of those who came before and the potential of those still to come. This week is a terrific opportunity to honour both.

CULTURAL LEAD MESSAGE
This year, Community Resources is proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week—a powerful milestone that honours half a century of elevating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, cultures, and resilience.
The 2025 theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” invites us to reflect on the enduring strength of our First Nations communities and to look forward with hope and determination as we support the young leaders shaping our collective future.
At Community Resources, we recognise the critical role that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples play in leading the way toward a more inclusive, just, and sustainable future. This year’s theme reminds us that our work is grounded not only in the strength of our Elders and the legacy of those who came before us, but also in the vision and energy of emerging generations. Across our social enterprises and community programs, we are committed to creating opportunities that honour culture, foster connection, and amplify Indigenous voices in all that we do.
As we mark this important milestone, we recommit to walking alongside our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partners, learning from their wisdom and stories, and building a future where communities are led by their own aspirations. Together, we celebrate the movement that is NAIDOC - a movement of pride, resilience, and unity—and we look ahead to the next 50 years with strength, vision, and a shared commitment to lasting legacy.
